Crown Alumni Carry-In Summary - Sept. 9, 2019
It was great to see and visit with all the Crown folks that attended the 2019 Carry-in picnic Saturday. Weather was the best ever, blue sky, no wind and temps in the 60’s to low 70’s. The Stable Pavilion at Oxbow Park was a welcoming place with the 25 picnic tables and open air gathering area. The official head count this year was 80 folks, down from last year but not a surprise, nor a disappointment. All the VIP’s were there, Clyde, Gerald, Don, Verne, Clay, and Mike Stoll. For me I was surprised to see Don Keele, Ken Yoder, and all the way from Milwaukee, Tony Satariano. The person traveling the farthest Don and Sylvia Eger from New York State.
Once again you all out did yourself with the food offerings you brought. The mix was in true pot luck format and the chicken we used to provide was not missed at all. I unfortunately sampled all the deviled egg plates, again and again…. We could use some feedback on our choice of providing water bottles as the beverage. Was this adequate?
Financially we came out in the black. Our donations totaled $850 and our expenses were approximately $600. Extra monies will go toward the next event.
Photographers: please remember to upload your pictures to the Crown Alumni web site. If you didn't get the email with instructions, just email me (Tom Szerencse) for details. Try to get them uploaded in the next two weeks. If you can’t get this to work just e-mail them to me or put them on a USB drive and I’ll come get them.
The party began at noon with welcoming words from our MC, Jim Beattie. Then Don Eger was asked to give the blessing. Food filled 6 tables with many hot dishes. We ate, visited, reminisced, and listened to good music thru Dave’s Crown powered PA (thanks Dave). We looked at some hardware and some new old pictures. And before you knew it was time to call it a day. Most departed between 2 and 3 but some stayed till almost 5.
A special thanks to those who did the food set up, Kim, Deb, and Jan, and to those there at the end which helped us load tables and pack everything in.
There was only one task that was overlooked and it was my fault. I completely forgot the importance of taking the family photo. And for that I am sorry. We’ll do better next time.
Next year’s event will be Saturday Aug 29, mark your calendar. (Labor Day is 9/7 next year)
